FixGuru or a freelancer from Upwork or Fiverr: which fits your problem
Upwork and Fiverr are good places to find developers, and for some jobs they are the better choice. FixGuru is built for one kind of job: something on your site is broken right now and you want it fixed, quickly, for a price you know in advance, by people you can hold to it. Here is how the two approaches differ, so you can pick the one that fits.
- When you pay
- FixGuru: The price is held on your card and charged only after you approve the fix. Not fixed? The hold is released and you pay nothing.
- Marketplace: You pay the platform when you order or fund a milestone, before the work is done. Getting money back goes through the platform's dispute process.
- What "done" means
- FixGuru: Each fix has a written definition of fixed, shown before you place the hold. That is the test.
- Marketplace: Whatever the listing or your messages with the freelancer said.
- How fast it starts
- FixGuru: Pick the fix, see the price, place the hold. We start within 2 hours of access during service hours (7am to 10pm Pacific).
- Marketplace: Post a job or message sellers, compare offers, then wait for the person you chose to be available.
- Who does the work
- FixGuru: Our own US-based team. We do not outsource and never pass your access to a contractor.
- Marketplace: An individual or an agency, anywhere in the world, chosen from profiles and reviews.
- Your passwords
- FixGuru: Temporary, logged access. Passwords go into an encrypted vault wiped 72 hours after the job; every sign-in is shown to you; we remove our own access when the job closes.
- Marketplace: Usually sent in chat, and they stay wherever they were sent until you change them.
- If it breaks again
- FixGuru: Reopen the job free within 14 or 30 days, depending on the fix, and we fix it again.
- Marketplace: A new order, unless the freelancer offers otherwise.
- What you keep
- FixGuru: A written report: what was wrong, what we changed, and what to do so it does not happen again.
- Marketplace: Varies by freelancer.
When a marketplace is the better choice
- You need a new website, a redesign or a large new feature, not a repair.
- You want an ongoing developer who learns your business over months.
- The lowest possible price matters more than speed or guarantees. Marketplaces have offers far below our prices.
- Your problem is not on our list and is not urgent. Posting it and comparing offers costs you nothing but time.
When FixGuru is the better choice
- The site is down, hacked, sending mail to spam or under attack, and every hour costs you money.
- You do not want to pay before you know it works.
- You would rather not hand your hosting or admin password to a stranger, or you need a record of who signed in and what they changed.
- You want a known price and a deadline before anything starts, and a free redo if the same problem returns.
What we are not
We are not a marketplace and we do not take bids. There is no one to choose between: every job is done by the same team, under the same rules, at the price on the page. If a job is not something we can honestly fix, we say so before any hold is placed, and if we cannot fix it after starting, you pay nothing.
Questions people ask
- Are you cheaper than Upwork or Fiverr?
- Often not. You can find lower prices on a marketplace. What our price buys is paying only when it works, a written definition of done, a deadline, logged access and a reopen guarantee.
- Can I hire you through Upwork or Fiverr?
- No. FixGuru jobs are placed only on fixguru.com, which is what makes the card hold, the access vault and the guarantee possible.
- What if my problem is not on your list?
- Choose "Something else" when you start. We send a fixed price and a deadline within 2 hours during service hours, and nothing is held until you accept it.
